WPMU Candidate: b5media

September 21, 2005

I just posted at my main blog about a new blog network, b5media. The blogs all use WordPress and are hosted by b5, rather than by the individual bloggers. I suggested that this might be a good application for WPMU down the road. I thought I’d post about it here to ask:

  • Do you agree with me?
  • How many blogs in the network before WPMU becomes really worthwhile?
  • Are there any similar networks already using WPMU?

If anyone in the wordpress community wants to help us out testing WPMU in this setting, we’d be more than happy to do so :)

I think it will be possible to use MU in a network setting, but before that can happen the code base will have to be a little more stable. I was thinking of using MU as a platform for a blogging network, only until the codes become more stable. Right now I am testing the MU by hosting other people’s site in a invite only setting.

I’ll come back and let you know how the MU stands under working condition as a network platform.

At Plymouth State University, we are considering WPMU for all students and faculty on campus:
