WPMU Hosts are Delicious!

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Tom of Salzburg weblogs asked for an RSS feed of the list of WPMU hosts that I maintain in the sidebar of this blog. I set up a feed in the quickest way I know how. I went down the list, visiting each host in turn, and del.icio.us-tagging each with wpmu and host.

So you can see the delicious version of the list, and subscribe to its RSS feed. The only tags I’ve used, besides wpmu and host, indicate the language for non-English blogs. There are two of them: Salzburg (in German, although not in Germany) and Chile (in Spanish, although not in Spain.

The way in which I’ve done this is the quickest, but probably not the best. It’s probably a good job for OPML, but I find the OPML tool rather counter-intuitive.

WPMU Candidate: b5media

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

I just posted at my main blog about a new blog network, b5media. The blogs all use WordPress and are hosted by b5, rather than by the individual bloggers. I suggested that this might be a good application for WPMU down the road. I thought I’d post about it here to ask:

  • Do you agree with me?
  • How many blogs in the network before WPMU becomes really worthwhile?
  • Are there any similar networks already using WPMU?

Coven of Hosts

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

I’ve just added the 13th WPMU host to the sidebar of this blog*. So we now have a coven, or a baker’s dozen, or an unlucky number. But I’m sure that the number will grow larger and luckier.

* It’s rather misleading to say that the WPMU host list is in the sidebar. It depends on which view of the blog you are taking. The main page includes the full sidebar, the post page doesn’t. I’d like to be able to fix that without having to shop for a new theme, but we don’t have theme editing in WPMU yet.

WPMU Sites

Saturday, September 10th, 2005

I’m wondering how widely WordPress Multi-User is being deployed. I’ve created a link category, WPMU. If you look in the sidebar, you can see the five WPMU-based hosts of which I’m currently aware. If you tell me about more, I’ll add them. If there is enough interest, I’ll start an annotated list.

I’d also be interested in hearing about organizational WPMU sites. For example, if I wanted to set up blogs for multiple members of a particular organization (club, firm, etc.), I might well use WPMU. I’m not sure how widely WPMU has been used so far in this way.
